Rocco Pirozzolo speaks at Civil Justice Council consultation event on litigation funding

28 Feb 2025

Rocco appeared on a panel focusing on dispute insurance at an event held to discuss issues raised in the Civil Justice Council’s interim report on litigation funding

In late 2024, the Civil Justice Council (CJC) published an interim report and consultation as part of its review of litigation funding. The consultation was due to close on 31 January 2025 but has been extended until 3 March 2025.

As part of the consultation process, Mr Justice Simon Picken and Dr John Sorabji, the co-chairs of CJC’s working group, hosted an event on 26 February 2025 at Pembroke College, Oxford University, to discuss questions posed in the interim report.

The event was structured around three panels focusing on:

Rocco was honoured to be invited to be on the panel discussing insurance. The panel was chaired by Julian Chamberlayne, a partner at Stewarts, and the other panellists were Greg Callus, a barrister at 5RB and Ray Koh, legal counsel at Lloyd’s Market Association.

The event was attended by a select group of lawyers, litigation funders, insurance underwriters and other interested parties. It was also live streamed on YouTube.

The event prompted some fascinating insights from both panellists and audience members, who were encouraged to ask questions and express their views on the matters being discussed.

You can read a review of the panel discussion in the Law Society Gazette article, “Is BTE the ‘magic money tree’ justice needs?”

The CJC’s full report is expected later in the year, and we look forward to reading it with interest, particularly its views on the role of dispute insurance.
